PORTRAITS IN PLATINUM
My methodology for portraiture is based on four pillars – respect for my subject as a person, the use of a classic 8 x 10 inch view camera and black-and-white film to make the photograph, a specific quality of light – either natural or controlled in a studio, which brings a unique descriptive quality to the work only possible through photography, and finally, the interpretation of that persons photographic portrait, via the Platinotype printing process which gives me creative opportunities to control how the print looks, not possible with traditional bxw paper and contemporary archival pigment print paper.
